The Pilates Method First of all, Pilates is NOT a recent phenomenon or fad! (Pronounced "pi-LAH-tees"). The Classical & “True” Pilates Method is actually a time-honored system- a series of non-impact exercises- originally developed and taught by German-born Joseph Pilates. Joseph & his wife Clara, taught their unique training regimen to increase strength, flexibility, balance and inner awareness. Pilates, oftentimes, is referred to as “the most ultimate body conditioning workout.”
Pilates works THE CORE!!! Nothing works those abdominal muscles like Pilates! Proper training focuses on posture and alignment during each exercise. Pilates promotes mind-body harmony for people of all ages & physical conditions, while providing an invigorating and stimulating workout. Because classes are done with a one-on-one approach with a certified instructor or in small supervised group classes, instructors can customize & cater individually to clients’ specific needs. Regardless of your present level of fitness, Pilates can be an avenue for stretching, physical conditioning, body maintenance, proper breathing, and injury prevention.
In more recent years, Pilates has been recommended by doctors, physical therapists, chiropractors and orthopedists as a rehabilitative form of physical therapy and/or strengthening body mechanics.
